Love Is A Battlefield

When MTV still played music videos, I use to watch it a lot. I liked seeing the artists interpretation of their songs, because it gave a different perspective to what my own interpretation of their songs were.
This song basically was cool because for me it was about being at war with our feelings, when we are young and trying to understand how love can be a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. As you can see with Pat Benatar's video for this song, she clearly had a different vision than mine.

Are you a Pat Benatar fan? If you are a fan, what is your favorite song?

Fast Car

Tracy Chapman received a Grammy Award for best female pop vocalist performance for the Song, 'Fast Car', in 1989. She grew up poor, but she was lucky enough to have a mom, who saw how much she loved music, and bought her a Ukulele.
When I first heard this song play on the radio, It made me think about, when I was growing up. It was not an easy life.
My mom did the best she could, I know that now, but when you're a kid, you wish for a better life. A life where you have enough food to eat everyday.
Moving here ... moving there, which meant that I could never really call it my home, because I never lived there long enough for it to feel like my home.
I was born near to a city, destined to live the city life, when suddenly I am forced to live the country life. Luckily I am living the city life again, because I feel like I am finally home.
Even if you aren't into this kind of music, I hope that you will take the time to listen to this song. I guarantee that it will be worth your time.

People Are People

I found the song 'People Are People' sang by the band 'Depeche Mode' to be a song that has deep meaning to it because the lyrics deal with how mankind tends to treat their fellowman.

We who are judged by the color of our skin, or are judged for being an American, a Mexican, A Muslim, A German, An Asian, or a Jewish person, should not be grouped into these labels as a whole, because we are all individuals with our own personalities, views, and spirituality.

I think that I should not be judged by another human being, because I would not judge them.

The lyrics to this song gives us reasons why we shouldn't judge, or be judged by anyone. We are who we are because we were born with a unique soul. We are not like everyone else because our soul controls our thoughts and actions.

I am a person who wishes for a peaceful world which would mean that there would be no need for Wars to be started, and I also wish for universal love which would mean that there would be no reason to hate our  fellowman.

Please take the time to listen to this song because in times like these, we definitely need to come together as one, so that we can embrace our fellowman, and to also remember to lend a helping hand when a good man (or woman) is down and out because someday it could be you who is in that position instead of them.

Are you afraid to be the real you because you are afraid that people will judge you for who you really are?

OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark)

I have chosen two videos from this band, because I like them both equally. I first heard the song, 'If you leave', when I saw the movie, 'Pretty in pink', back in the mid 1980's. I liked that movie so much I went out and bought the DVD.

This song brings back memories of a time, when I had a crush on a guy, who I had met during the summer of 1976, and then was lucky enough to see again in 1980, before I had to leave for my stint in the Army. We both had a great time together. Whenever I hear this song, I wonder if he still remembers me.

I like the second song because the music seems to be very soothing to the soul, especially when so many scary things are going on all around us, which sometimes makes it very hard to sleep at night.

This band was formed in 1978. The founding members are Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, who met at primary school. They are from England.
The song, 'If you leave' was on the the billboard chart at #5 in the U.S. However, the song,'Forever live and die', only reached #11 in the UK.

Waiting For A Star To Fall

The song 'Waiting For A Star To Fall' peaked at #5 on the U.S. billboard hot 100 chart in 1988. George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam formed the band 'Boy Meets Girl'. George and Shannon were married until they got divorced in 2000.

This song was offered to Whitney Houston because George wrote the song after seeing a falling star at one of her concerts. Thankfully Whitney rejected the song, and Boy meets girl finally had a hit song.

I like this song because it is a happy song. A song about love is always nice to listen to especially if you are in a loving relationship. I am currently in a loving relationship, with a childhood sweetheart, who treats me like a queen. We enjoy each others company very much, and I am grateful that he never gave up looking for me after we parted ways in 1981.

With everything that has been happening all around the world, whether it be earth quakes, volcanoes erupting, or gigantic oil spills (thanks to British Petroleum and others), we all need a refreshing break from all this disaster, so watch and listen to this video so that you can smile for a little while.

Dangerous

I was a fan of Roxette because their vocals seem to blend well together. My favorite song from this band is called, 'Dangerous". Although, there are other songs from them that other people might have liked better, than this song, I still like this song the best because of the twisted lyrics, and of course, the cool sounding music, which accompanies those lyrics.
Roxette is from Sweden, and they enjoyed world wide success, from the late 80's, until the mid 90's, when their second album
'Look Sharp', was released.
This song hit #2 on the Billboard charts, when it was released near the end of 1989, and stayed at #2 at the beginning of 1990.
This song was written by
Per Gessle, the male member of the singing duo, who is also a songwriter and guitarist. The other member of the singing duo is Marie Fredriksson. She is a singer and pianist. Before she became a member of Roxette she was experience a lot of success on her own, until after some years of talking about forming a band named Roxette with Per Gessle. They finally agreed to form the band in 1986, even though her friends, and people in the music industry were skeptics, about this band, when Marie was discussing the union, with Per Gessle.

What is the name of your favorite song from Roxette?

Life In A Northern Town

When I first heard this song it made me think about the small northern town that I grew up in. I have been told that we were kind of like in a backwards time warp, because we were a hair behind with progress, when compared to more populated areas like cities. And when we talked, we didn't talk like we were well educated, even though our school taught difficult subjects.
I use to remark to others that if you would blink your eyes, while you were driving through our small town, you would miss seeing it.
I know, it wasn't that bad, but we even talked different than people, whom I met when I was in the Army. Kind of like a mix of french Canadian English, and American Indian English, which gave us a weird sounding accent, which I didn't realize that I had until I moved away from my home town.
I don't really know, what else to compare it to, so don't hate me if you are originally from my small town, because it is not meant as an insult. The accent is what makes us unique as individuals.
I hope that you enjoy this song as much as I do when I listen to it, because it really is a very peaceful sounding song.

Did you grow up in a small town?
