When Doves Cry

The song, 'When Doves Cry', is the lead single on the album,'Purple Rain'. It was Prince's first hit song in America in 1984, which topped the charts for 5 weeks.

These are the lyrics:

Dig if you will the picture
Of you and I engaged in a kiss
The sweat of your body covers me
Can you my darling
Can you picture this?

Dream if you can a courtyard
An ocean of violets in bloom
Animals strike curious poses
They feel the heat
The heat between me and you

How can you just leave me standing?
Alone in a world that's so cold? (So cold)
Maybe I'm just too demanding
Maybe I'm just like my father too bold
Maybe you're just like my mother
She's never satisfied (She's never satisfied)
Why do we scream at each other?
This is what it sounds like
When doves cry

Touch if you will my stomach
Feel how it trembles inside
You've got the butterflies all tied up
Don't make me chase you
Even doves have pride

How can you just leave me standing?
Alone in a world so cold? (World so cold)
Maybe I'm just too demanding
Maybe I'm just like my father too bold
Maybe you're just like my mother
She's never satisfied (She's never satisfied)
Why do we scream at each other?
This is what it sounds like
When doves cry

How can you just leave me standing?
Alone in a world that's so cold? (A world that's so cold)
Maybe I'm just too demanding (Maybe, maybe I'm like my father)
Maybe I'm just like my father too bold (Ya know he's too bold)
Maybe you're just like my mother (Maybe you're just like my mother)
She's never satisfied (She's never, never satisfied)
Why do we scream at each other? (Why do we scream? Why?)
This is what it sounds like

When doves cry
When doves cry (Doves cry, doves cry)
When doves cry (Doves cry, doves cry)

Don't Cry (Don't Cry)

When doves cry
When doves cry
When doves cry

When Doves cry (Doves cry, doves cry, doves cry)
Don't cry
Darling don't cry
Don't cry
Don't cry

Blister In The Sun

I became a fan of Alternative Rock music back in the early 80's. When I first heard the song 'Blister in the sun', it had the right kind of quirky sound that almost made it sound like a punk pop song.

This song debuted in 1982, but was re-released in 1997 to coincide with the movie 'Grosse Point Blank'.

If you have never heard of this song, then you should definitely check it out by watching the video.

The lyrics are kind of funny and strange, but that's what makes it such a cool song to listen to.

The lyrics:

When I'm out walking
I strut my stuff
And I'm so strung out
I'm high as a kite
I just might stop to check you out.

Let me go on like I
Blister in the sun
Let me go on
Big hands, I know you're the one.

Body and beats,
I stain my sheets
I don't even know why
My girlfriend, she's at the end,
She is starting to cry.

Let me go on like I
Blister in the sun
Let me go on
Big hands, I know you're the one.

When I'm out walking
I strut my stuff
And I'm so strung out
I'm high as a kite
I just might stop to check you out.

When I'm out walking
I strut my stuff
And I'm so strung out
I'm high as a kite
I just might stop to check you out.

Body and beats,
I stain my sheets
I don't even know why
My girlfriend, she's at the end,
She is starting to cry.

When I'm out walking
I strut my stuff
And I'm so strung out
I'm high as a kite
I just might stop to check you out.

Let me go on like I
Blister in the sun
Let me go on
Big hands, I know you're the one.

And now for the video:

Run Runaway

Slade was a popular rock band, which sounded like an Irish rock band. The band originated from West Midlands, United Kingdom.

The song Run Runaway sounded cool because of the way that the song made you feel like dancing around the living room with your kids (guilty) LOL

These are the lyrics, just in case you would like to sing along with the video:

I like black and white (dreaming of black and white)
You like black and white
Run run away

[chorus]
See chameleon
Lying there in the sun
All things to everyone
Run run away

If you're in the swing (money ain't everything)
If you're in the swing
Run run away

If you gotta crush (don't beat about the bush)
When I gotta crush
Run run away

Oh now can't you wait (love don't come on a plate)
Oh now can't you wait
Run run away

See there chameleon
Lying there in the sun
All things to everyone
Run run away

Run run away
Run run away
Run run away

Welcome To The Jungle

I was a big fan of Guns N Roses, when the band began it's adventure into the rock industry music world. I kind of thought that Axel Rose was a hot looking front man. Now ... not so much.
There eventually were allegations of him being a 'wife beater', which of course took a lot of the hotness factor away for me, but I still like the song, 'Welcome to the jungle'.

Lyrics:

Welcome to the jungle
We've got fun n' games
We got everything you want
Honey, we know the names
We are the people that can find
Whatever you may need
If you got the money, honey
We got your disease

In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your knees, knees
I wanna watch you bleed

Welcome to the jungle
We take it day by day
If you want it you're gonna bleed
But it's the price you pay
And you're a very sexy girl
That's very hard to please
You can taste the bright lights
But you won't get them for free
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Feel my, my, my serpentine
I, I wanna hear you scream

Welcome to the jungle
It gets worse here everyday
Ya learn ta live like an animal
In the jungle where we play
If you got a hunger for what you see
You'll take it eventually
You can have anything you want
But you better not take it from me

In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your knees, knees
I wanna watch you bleed

And when you're high you never
Ever want to come down, YEAH!

You know where you are
You're in the jungle baby
You're gonna die
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your
knees, knees
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Feel my, my, my serpentine
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your
knees, knees
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your
It' gonna bring you down-HA!

Crazy Train

This is one of my favorite Ozzy songs because I think that life is one big crazy train.
With that said, life is what you make of it, and even with experiencing the craziness of the rat race, some people do eventually find a way to get off of the crazy train.

These are the lyrics:
All aboard

Crazy,but that's how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
Maybe it's not too late
To learn how to love
And forget how to hate

Mental wounds not healing
life's a bitter shame
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

I've listened to preachers
I've listened to fools
I've watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules
One person conditioned to rule and control
The media sells it and you live the role

Mental wounds still screaming

Driving me insane
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

I know that things are going wrong for me
You gotta listen to my words
Yeah

Heirs of a cold war
That's what we've become
Inheriting troubles I'm mentally numb
Crazy, I just can not bare
I'm living with something that just isn't fair

Mental wounds not healing
Who and what's to blame
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

Now you can sing along with the video.

Beds are Burning

Midnight oil is a band from Sidney Australia. The song 'Beds are Burning', was one of their well known songs, and it became a top 10 hit for them in 1987.
I like this song because it is a song about the Indigenous Indians, who are also known as Native Americans.
I am including the lyrics to this song, so that you can understand what the Indians went through, when the 'White man' invaded their world and turned it upside down.

These are the lyrics:
Out where the river broke
The blood wood and the desert oak
Holden wrecks and boiling diesels
Steam in forty five degrees

The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share

The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
Let's give it back

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent, now
To pay our share

Four wheels scare the cockatoos
From Kintore East to Yuendemu
The western desert lives and breathes
In forty five degrees

The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share
The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
Let's give it back

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent, now
To pay our share
The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
We're gonna give it back

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

Now you can listen to the video, and sing along with it.

Do you have Indian in your family tree? I do, from my mother's side of the family, but I look like my dad's side of the family.

Love Is A Battlefield

When MTV still played music videos, I use to watch it a lot. I liked seeing the artists interpretation of their songs, because it gave a different perspective to what my own interpretation of their songs were.
This song basically was cool because for me it was about being at war with our feelings, when we are young and trying to understand how love can be a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. As you can see with Pat Benatar's video for this song, she clearly had a different vision than mine.

Are you a Pat Benatar fan? If you are a fan, what is your favorite song?
